Team Netmums: 11 sleeps til Christmas and we’re beginning to panic

panicThis is a Facebook status update from Beth from Team Netmums that she posted up this week:

It kind of encapsulates how we’re all feeling just now with only 10 days to go until Christmas and an ever increasing mountain of things to do before the big day arrives.

The irony is that we spend ages in advance getting everything ready for the site. Mini

Snow Paint - done in October!

Snow Paint – done in October!

Team Netmums members are coerced into making Snowman paintings and Christmassy crafts in October for our craft pages, we drool in Autumn as we source images of festive food to help you plan for festive feasts  and we scour the press and local noticeboards to post up the best Christmassy events weeks in advance. So whilst Netmums is all ready for Christmas, when it comes to organising our own family festivities we are all feeling a bit like rabbits caught in the headlights (or should that be foxes chasing our own tails?). Whatever – we’re in a bit of a panic right now.

There’s just so much to do and on top of all the usual there’s extras like nativity costumes to sew (quick – knit a beard, where’s the teatowel…), school plays to watch, homework to supervise, party clothes to find (for the kids not us – our Christmas party is a ‘virtual one in our jamas!)….

Nic from the Team had been smugly crowing that she had got it all sorted miles in advance – she’d shopped weeks ago and all her parcels had arrived before the mad will-they -ever-bloody-get-postal-here panics even began. She’d wrapped, labelled, and made neat piles of gifts (some even handmade)….

THEN her littlest sat down yesterday and wrote a long letter to Father Christmas – full of letter to santanever before mentioned ‘wants’ and impossible to find gifts!. Garghgh!

A new survey this week revealed it takes 51 hours of chores to create a family Christmas. 51 hours!!!! We’re not sure we even have that many hours left that haven’t been earmarked already. Looks like we’re going to have to start speed shopping, speed wrapping, speed decorating and rush about tracking down turkey and sprouts pronto.
